In a time when so many different views of Christian belief and behavior are recorded in the news, Alpha provides an opportunity to present the basics of what Jesus Christ taught and believed. Alpha is a series of short (1/2 hour) videos that explore some of the basics of the Christian Faith. Each session looks at a different question and is designed to create conversation for anyone interested in learning more about Christianity. The sessions seek to provide an open, informal, and honest space to explore life’s big questions together. After watching the videos, participants are encouraged to explore claims made, share what they think, and explore answers for themselves. There is no cost to the program. There is no pressure to commit. We invite you to come and observe or come and discuss.
Each session will begin with light refreshments followed by a 30–minute video. After the video an opportunity will be provided for discussing the contents of the video. Sessions will begin at 7:00 PM and end by 8:30 PM each Thursday evening beginning the Thursday after Labor Day through the second Thursday in November at the house adjacent to Linebrook Church at 389 Linebrook Road.
You may park at the church. Childcare will be provided on the premises if needed. Come to one session or come to all! Following is a schedule. We hope you’ll come and explore with us!
September 13th: Is There More to Life Than This?
Focus will be on questions about life that we all share: Is this it? Where have I come from? Where am I going? Who am I? What’s the point of life? Is there any real meaning and purpose to life?
Common objections to/preconceptions about Christianity will be considered as well as claims Jesus made.
September 20th: Who is Jesus?
Focus will be upon the impact the man Jesus had on world history followed by an investigation of who Jesus is. Can we be confident he really existed in history? What claims did he make about himself? How might we assess these?
September 27th: Why did Jesus Die?
Focus will be on why the cross is the symbol for Jesus. Why did he die? What problem was he seeking to address? What are the results of his death?
October 4th: How Can I Have Faith?
Focus will be on “What is a Christian?” and “How do I know if I’m a Christian?” What is faith? What is it based upon?
October 11th: “Why and How Do I Pray?”
Focus will be why we pray. Why do Christians pray? What are the rewards to prayer? Does God answer prayer? How are we to pray?
October 18th: Why and How Do I Read the Bible?
Focus will be on why the Bible is so popular. What does the Bible teach about itself? What is its purpose? How do we hear God speak through the Bible?

November 1st: How Can I Make the Most of the Rest of My Life?
Focus will be on the fact that there are no dress rehearsals for life. We all make mistakes but how can we make the most of the rest of our lives? What should we do? How do we do it? Why do we do it?
November 8th: What About the Church?
Focus will be on who God wants us to be and how he wants us to act as his Church. Five images of the church will be touched upon: Friends, Family, Home, Jesus, Love.
